Real Madrid football academy in Port Harcourt was conceived and initiated by the Rivers State Government under the administration of Gov. Nyesom Wike on the 27th of may, 2018.
The Rivers State Government had intensified work progress on the construction of the Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt.
The facility is situated at the precincts of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The Construction of the Real Madrid Football Academy was flagged off by the President of Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mr. Ahmad Ahmad after the Rivers State Government and Real Madrid Football Club had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding at the Government Port Harcourt on May 27,2018.
Mr Ahmad said that the Real Madrid Football Academy in completion will promote international football best practices in Africa as well as raise future stars.

In the formal launching of the Real Madrid Football Academy in Port Harcourt on September 21,2019, Gov. Wike in his address said that the project encompasses a school and a Hostel which will be constructed in the Academy as additional facilities.
The Area Manager of Real Madrid Foundation for Africa and the Middle East, Mr. Inigo Vallejo who was also in Attendance pledged Real Madrid’s Commitment towards supporting the Academy’s development. He assured that the European giant has keyed into the projex4 and will enable it to succeed. Vallejo thanked Gov. Wike for his commitment to football development assuring that Real Madrid football Club would provide the necessary technical support to develop the academy.

The Launching of the Academy by Gov. Wike was witnessed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde who unveiled the Ultra Modern Football Academy and Real Madrid Football Club Officials and Representatives from Spain.
